TLS Guy said:. You are correct. There are major problems in the design of that tweeter. I'm certain the tweeter they selected is the Audax 1" 28mm tweeter. Ricardojoa said:. The arendal uses soft dome tweeter, not hard dome titanium. And is 28mm not 1" To clear out a things about this tweeter so we can stop this crazy guesswork going around here. Looking at the Norwegian site from lsound. The specific tweeter in question is a top of the line 28 mm soft dome designed by Dr.Arendal is a name that probably sounds unknown to you, or you must have already made a trip to the High North.

But when it comes to audio, then almost certainly no bell will ring. Perhaps that is because the Norwegian loudspeaker builder initially aimed at Scandinavia and Germany with his direct-sale model. Arendal is a relatively young loudspeaker company from Norway, shot from the online hi-fi store L-Sound. Just like rival Teufel, Arendal sells directly to the consumer, although the Norwegian range is more limited and more focused than among the Berliners. And also: the Arendal speakers are really the brainchild of the founder, engineer Jan Ove Lassesen.

At the same time, this is a professional company, not a one-man show. The way in which the products are packaged and their high-quality construction leaves little doubt about that.

The interesting thing about Arendal is that their loudspeaker line-up contains very interesting products that do not bear extreme prices.

Unlike many speaker families, these speakers are also primarily made for home cinema use, although that does not mean that they are unusable for hi-fi purposes. For example, the S series, of which we deal with a number of models in this review, bears the THX label. This is of course not a salvation nor does it say anything about the sound character, but it does indicate that these speakers are designed to fit into an ideal home theater as THX sees it.

One of the important elements here is that the representation off-axis so if you are not in front of it remains balanced so high, middle and low remain balanced. Even with speakers with a broad appearance it does not sound as good at a large angle, but THX wants that decrease to be gradual. Not that by moving a little to the left or right in the seat you would suddenly notice a major change in sound quality.

These are principles that we fully agree with. The S models that we see here are the more compact versions of the larger family, with smaller drivers. Well, these speakers aren't really small. Even these more compact S-speakers are large and weigh well.

The biggest asset is the price. The Arendal set that we are viewing here is very competitively priced for what we receive. About 4, euros for 5.Deals Amazon deals Bargain threads Classified adverts.

Review Discussion Home AV Review. Hop to What is the Arendal Speaker Package? What is the Arendal Speaker Package? Arendal Sound might not be a familiar name to you but this Norwegian company has an excellent pedigree when it comes to speaker design and manufacturer.

Home Theater Upgrade? ARENDAL SOUND 1723 Monitor S THX UNBOXING \u0026 First Impressions

The firm evolved from retailer L Sound who clearly know a thing or two about AV products and decided to create their own speaker brand. The result is a series of speakers, all of which have been designed with the intention of delivering, performance, accuracy, build quality and relative value. That's a nice story but it might make naming later products a bit tricky.

The entire range can be bought directly from the Arendal website, with prices in Euros, so exactly how much an individual product costs will vary depending on the prevailing exchange rate. The 5. This is identical to the monitors expect for the location of the badge and the orientation of the binding posts.

There's also two dedicated surround speakers with direct, forward and rear facing drivers, along with a Subwoofer 2. The emphasis is more on the quality of materials and the type of construction, rather than exotic materials and wacky designs. Besides we're old school, we like our speakers to look like speakers. So you get a very traditional speaker with mid-range drivers either side of a central tweeter.

The reason for this is that it results in a more sonically inert cabinet and the HDF can be machined more precisely. This is especially important for the two-part HDF and aluminium waveguide and Arendal uses thicknesses of HDF ranging from 18 to 50mm, with critical areas like the driver mountings and speaker bases being the thickest.

The company have also strategically placed internal braces to increase the overall cabinet strength to limit any unwanted panel vibrations that might cause audible colouration. The internal braces also smooth airflow and minimise volume losses within the cabinet whilst maintaining their thickness at critical assembly points.

The final detail is to apply a butyl-based differential mass damping layer to the inner faces of the cabinet, just to be sure that every last resonance has been damped out.

Arendal use almost entirely non-plastic components, with high grade brushed and anodised aluminium back plates on their subwoofers and speakers, in fact even their logo is in anodized aluminium.

The interior of their speakers also use high count multi-strand wire, braided together. This is done to produce the most consistent impedance possible and deliver superior electrical current carrying capabilities. The company claims this results in very low insertion losses and insures that each driver sees what the amplifier intended without any distractions.Arendal is a name that probably sounds unknown to you, or you must have already made a trip to the High North.

About 4, euros for 5. The first thing that strikes us when UPS delivers a pallet of boxes to us : the weight. Speakers always weigh a lot, but this still seems a bit heavier than expected.

When we unpack, we immediately see why. The Arendal speakers are packed very well, not in cheap polystyrene foam but in a heavy, sturdy plastic. In addition, each loudspeaker is individually packed in a luxury bag from a glossy, thick textile and you will even find a pair of white gloves among the accessories. You could say: this is not all that important.

You are then not entirely wrong. But if you do direct sales at competitive prices, then packaging and presentation is really important. It must give a good impression.

When the boxes arrive at your home, there simply is no quality check by a retailer in advance or there is no one who gives some explanation about what you actually receive at home. In any case, the Arendal speakers are better packed than many speakers from your local HIF store and give them a strong pride-of-ownership feeling even when they are unpacked.Deals Amazon deals Bargain threads Classified adverts.

I do, within reason, like to try to obtain the best possible sound from my system; however, I'm of opinion that high priced cables, mega dollar suspension platforms, nor crazy voodoo type accessory are required to achieve good sound.

I prefer to spend time and money on a well treated room as the room itself is an overlooked piece of the overall puzzle. My humble opinion, as long as the sound brings a smile to my face and it is enjoyed by the family, then all is well.

I've tried boutique type cables in the past and found that after extensive listening, to my ears, it had zero effect on sound I have had great success with cables by Canare or Mogami. That being said However, as you indicated, I'm currently facing a sharp edginess to the sound that I dislike, so I've stopped listening and have them running through pink noise to see if they need additional break-in time.

Plan is to allow another 24hrs of break-in, before I try to listen to them again. This was the initial plan for the home theater LuisV Active Member. No, sorry, haven't heard of Acousticfileds and yes, seems like we have similar needs and ideas.

I also agree on cables. The ethos behind the original lineup of speakers and subwoofers was, says Arendal, simple: to create well-made and great-sounding speakers at an affordable price. It mirrors the bigger series with Monitor, Center, and Surround models, but also includes Tower and Bookshelf options.

The 5. Arendal S THX 5. The range employs the same custom waveguide and 1in tweeter as Arendal's more expensive models, and the only major difference is the use of 6. In the case of the Monitor and Center models the cabinets include two rear vents with foam plugs for a degree of bass tuning. As a result they claim a frequency response of 46HzkHz. The Monitor S uses two 6in bass drivers either side of a tweeter, and the Center S an identical configuration but orientated horizontally.

The 'triaxial' Surround S uses a forward-firing tweeter and woofer, combined with two angled 4in full-range drivers for a dipolar arrangement. The entire package is THX Ultra certified, and features magnetic fabric-wrapped perforated metal grilles and dual binding posts made from Rhodium-plated copper. Our system is matte white, but with a gloss sub.

Its There are two different EQ settings on the sub, and low-frequency response is rated at a deep 20Hz.

You can almost see the massed Viking hordes heading for Valhalla as they wield the Hammer of the Gods Convinced the system is capable of delivering the goods in the unbridled joy department, I spun up Gravity Blu-raywith its highly directional 5. The sound design here shuffles audio effects from speaker to speaker in conjunction with the onscreen action, and in general the Arendal system handles this in a largely seamless fashion, courtesy of those identical tweeters and woofers.

Breathing is clearly heard amongst falling rain drops, followed by the subtle sound of apes moving through trees and Michael Giacchino's choral arrangement rising in the background. All five speakers play there part here, creating an encapsulating, realistic-feeling soundfield. It's dynamic too. Partnered with my Arcam AVRthis system's ability to handle soundtrack theatrics is tested as a herd of deer are startled and the mix bursts into life.

The speakers prove more responsive and nimble than I was expecting, handling the sudden transient changes with ease.

In Dunkirk Ultra HD Blu-raysudden bursts of gunfire tear through the room, while sounds are well dispersed from all the speakers when the action moves into the Spitfire cockpits. The high-pitched wails of Stuka dive bombers are incredibly loud and genuinely frightening, while the explosions that follow hit with a visceral LFE impact.

The Subwoofer 1 attacks bass without overstaying its welcome.
